Crafting my Life

If you’ve been reading here for any length of time you know that I spent the better part of a year writing a series on maternity leave called ‘Mat Leave Monday‘. And then the series ended, because my maternity leave ended. However, I didn’t go back to work thanks to my lay-off in April.

This left me a little adrift. I wasn’t working, but I was also ready to move on from all maternity leave all the time. I will still talk about it from time to time, since it’s important to me, but I wanted to move in a new, larger direction. And now I’ve found it. My new series is called Crafting my Life and I will be running related posts every Thursday. I don’t know why on Thursday, particularly. I wanted a new day since Monday was sort of hard, so let’s just run with it.

What is Crafting my Life about? It’s about crafting my life into something new, more in line with the way I want to live. It’s also about the tools I use to accomplish that. Here are some things I might be talking about:

  • Motherhood and self.
  • Work – life balance.
  • Finding time.
  • Re-inventing my life.
  • Discovering what I want to be when I grow up.
  • Maternity leave (this is part of work – life balance, in my mind).
  • Returning to work, or not.
  • Keeping sane.
  • Finding, or gathering, my tribe.
  • My journey to become a freelancer and writer.
  • You can expect Crafting my Life to be less research-intensive than Mat Leave Mondays, and more personal. Although I would love to hear your stories, too. In my mind I envision a conversation about how we’re making motherhood work, or not work, in our lives. Or really, how anyone is balancing the various pieces of themselves, whether they are a mother or not.

I hope that you follow along for the ride. And if you have any suggestions for topics, or would like to contribute yourself, let me know. I am always up for someone making my job easier on me. That’s all part of finding balance, after all.

    10. I’m excited to see that you’re dedicating some focused energy on writing specifically about your transition/transformation every week. You know I’m trying to sort out the same types of things right now, so maybe we can give each other a shoulder (or maybe even some good tips!)

My first 3 days of the new life have been pretty amazing so far. I feel like a whole new person. I feel more important… imagine that!

I’m still trying to find the time to even write about the new life. I’ve spent so much of this week shuttling the kids hither and yon, plus studying for midterms, and fulfilling cake orders. My writing has become a non-priority at the end of a tired day. But I’ll eventually get into the swing of things and hopefully find the mental energy to sort this all out on virtual paper.

      Anyway… you go girl.
